Leaps in Language
|
One-and-a-half-year-olds are great mimics. They imitate
the way adults talk, and the way they use everyday things.
They love to explore, climb, dance, and spin around.
Language blossoms at this age, and toddlers love repeating
new words and phrases. Books with rhythm and music encourage
toddlers to practice their language skills.
Tips for Reading to a one-and-a-half-year-old:
- Choose a book with plenty of repetition or a common
refrain to allow your child to chime in.
- Lap reading is always fun, but some independent
toddlers may want to sit beside you on the couch.
- Recite favorite picture-book texts together when your
child is in the high chair or tub and make a game out of
it.
- Ask your toddler to choose the book at story
time.
- Encourage other family members to read to your
child.

celebrates the loving relationship between aunt and
niece.

easy-to-sing favorites. The winsome illustrations enhance
the humor and spirit of the music.
- Duck Song, an adaptation of the classic poem
